Profile pictures

Spotify profile picture size.

There are two different answers, and almost every page online gives you a third one that Spotify never wrote. Below: what Spotify actually publishes for artist profiles, what it publishes for listener profiles (nothing), and a free tool to crop yours into a clean square.

Two profiles, two answers

Which one are you?

Spotify treats an artist profile and a listener account as different things, and only one of them has a published size.

750 × 750
minimum

Artist profile

The picture on your artist page. Spotify publishes a minimum of 750 × 750, in JPEG, PNG or GIF, under 20 MB.

Extra rules apply here: no text, no advertising, no busy backgrounds, and no promoting an upcoming tour or release. Images can be removed if they break them.

Managed in Spotify for Artists, with admin or editor access to the profile.

no size
published

Listener account

The picture on a normal Spotify account. Spotify's guidelines for profile and playlist images contain no pixel size, no weight limit and no format list — only legal rules.

So there is no minimum to meet. Square is what matters, because the picture is displayed as a circle.

Changed in the app: open your profile and tap the picture.

The number nobody can source

Where 300 × 300 comes from.

Search for this and you will be told 300 × 300 as if it were a rule. We went looking for the source and could not find one. Spotify's page on profile and playlist user image guidelines — the page where a size would live — says this and nothing else about the file:

"You can't upload any images that violate any copyright, trademark, or personal image rights." Spotify, Profile and playlist user image guidelines — checked 4 September 2026

The one published number in this area is 750 × 750, and it is in a different document, the artist image guidelines, which applies to artist profiles only. Our guess is that 300 × 300 travelled from one blog post to the next until it looked official. We are not going to add a page that repeats it.

Practical answer: make it square and large enough not to look soft — 1000 × 1000 is plenty for any screen. If it is an artist profile, 750 × 750 is the floor you must clear.

The circle

Why your picture looks cut off.

Spotify shows profile pictures inside a circle. Two things follow from that. A photo that is not square gets cropped to a square first, and you do not choose which part survives. And even in a square, the four corners are outside the circle — roughly 21% of the image area never shows.

So put your face, logo or subject in the middle and leave breathing room around it. Text near an edge disappears entirely. The cropper on this site draws the square for you and lets you drag and zoom until the important part is centred.

Everything square on Spotify

FAQ

Common questions.

What size is a Spotify profile picture?

It depends on which profile. For an artist profile, Spotify publishes a minimum of 750 × 750 pixels, in JPEG, PNG or GIF, under 20 MB. For a normal listener account, Spotify publishes no size at all — its guidelines for profile and playlist images cover only copyright, trademark and personal image rights. Square is what matters, because the picture is displayed as a circle.

Is 300 × 300 the minimum for a Spotify profile picture?

That figure circulates widely but does not appear in Spotify's documentation for listener profiles. The only published number is 750 × 750, and it applies to artist profiles. We are not going to repeat a number Spotify never wrote.

Why does my Spotify profile picture look cropped?

Spotify displays profile pictures inside a circle. Anything near the corners of a square image is cut off, and a non-square image is cropped to a square first. Keep your face or logo in the middle with room around it.

How do I change my Spotify profile picture?

For a listener account: open your profile, tap or click the picture, and choose a new image. For an artist profile you need Spotify for Artists and admin or editor access to that profile; images are managed there, not in the listener app.

Can I use any photo as a profile picture?

Only one you have the right to use. Spotify names three grounds for removing an image: copyright, trademark, and a person's image rights. Artist profiles have extra rules: no text, no advertising, no busy backgrounds, and no promotion of an upcoming tour or release.

Does this tool need an account?

No. Cropping and encoding run in your own browser, so the photo is never uploaded. No account, no watermark, no export limit.
